Hotaru Minako

Hiroshi travels to Hiyose to experience its natural beauty and sample the local potato shochu. During his train ride, he meets Minako, a woman determined to stop a paper mill from being built, as it threatens the region's environment and fireflies. Hiroshi grows fond of her and her cause. During the summer festival, he sees an unexpected and disturbing event unfold.
