Pinoko grows annoyed with the unfinished condition of their residence and urges Black Jack to relocate. Rather than agreeing, he shares the history of the carpenter who originally constructed the building. The craftsman was determined to personally renovate the structure into the clinic Black Jack required. However, he contracted leukemia, a disease that was largely untreatable at the time. Consequently, the carpenter became the very first patient of the clinic he helped create, turning his professional ambition into a personal medical tragedy.
