Tsurumi searches for Hijikata’s group in Abashiri, who head to Kushiro seeking Nopperabo. Sugimoto’s party follows the trail by dog sled to the small village of Karafuto. They win the bout but attract the attention of a large Japanese man in the audience.

Koito, Tsukishima, and Tanigaki follow, finding Gansoku attacked by a wolverine. They shelter in a hot banya. Cikapasi and Enonoka rescue the dog but attract the wolverine. Sugimoto arrives to finish the fight, but Tanigaki helps Cikapasi shoot the animal. The commotion causes everyone to fall through the ice into freezing water. They return to the banya, where the cold water revives Sugimoto. They decide not to kill Gansoku, copy his tattoos, and suggest he flee deeper into Russian territory. Asirpa seal hunts with Kiroranke, Shiraishi, and Ogata.

Oct 19, 2020Kiroranke’s party reaches the site of Wilk’s birth, finding it abandoned after the Japan-Russian war and now a silver fox farm. They confirm Nopperabo is Wilk and realize Asirpa holds the key to decoding prisoner tattoos, requiring careful extraction of this knowledge. Tsukishima says goodbye to Gansoku and warns Sugimoto against losing control. His thoughts return to his time on death row for killing his abusive father, where he met Tsurumi. Tsurumi lied about Igogusa’s fate to recruit him as a Russian interpreter for the 7th Division. Upon discovering the deception, Tsukishima attacked Tsurumi, yet later saved his life during an artillery strike, covering Tsurumi’s forehead wound with a ceramic plate.

During the show, Tsukishima swaps the prop sword for a real one, causing Sugimoto to actually cut himself before three Russians attack. Sugimoto kills two, Tsukishima defeats the third, and Fumie executes the survivor who sought Imperial spy Yamada. They bury the bodies, and a newspaper article mistakenly calls Sugimoto the Immoral Sugimoto. Yamada then mentions Alexandrovskaya Prison, 530 kilometers north, holding Eastern resistance fighters.
EP 5Kiroranke's group hunts reindeer with Uilta herders to secure supplies and cross into Russia.
Nov 2, 2020Kiroranke’s party travels far north on Sakhalin near the Russian border with dwindling supplies. Ogata kills a reindeer from an Uilta herd, prompting the herdsman to demand replacement. This act fulfills Kiroranke’s plan to befriend the Uilta and enlist their aid for crossing into Russia. In Otaru, Tsurumi informs Nikaidou that Kiroranke was a teenage member of the group that assassinated Emperor Alexander II in Russia. Tsurumi leaked information about Kiroranke’s movement into Russian Sakhalin. As Kiroranke’s group crosses the border disguised as Uilta, a Russian sniper shoots the old Uilta carrying Ogata’s rifle. The group realizes it is an ambush, and Ogata shoots the Russian commander, allowing them to reach forest safety. The wounded commander reveals Kiroranke’s identity is known among Russian troops, initiating a deadly cat-and-mouse game between Ogata and the sniper.

Ogata returns to the group suffering from high fever and cold exposure, hallucinating about his past failure to corrupt his brother Yuusaku Hanazawa before killing him. Shiraishi urges Asirpa to flee, fearing Kiroranke only wants Wilk’s code, but she refuses, demanding answers about her father. Later, Kiroranke leaves Shiraishi behind for safety, though Shiraishi honors his promise to Sugimoto to protect Asirpa and continues with the group. Assassins hired by victims’ families attack him, but he quickly incapacitates them. When Hijikata arrives, more assassins join the fray. Yoichiro fights back with a sword and escapes, but Hijikata pursues and kills him. As Yoichiro dies, he regrets his past actions as a tool of the imperial loyalists. The fugitives paid him to teach Japanese, but fled when secret police arrived, fearing discovery. The police actually targeted Hasegawa, a Japanese spy. A gunfight ensued, killing the police but fatally wounding Fina and her child with stray bullets. Sofia blamed herself for the deaths. The group planned to cross the Strait of Tartary to Karafuto via ice bridge. Sofia declared love for Wilk but stayed to fight. Kiroranke now plans to free Sofia and others to continue their revolution. In an epilogue, dying Fina’s husband reveals his true name is Tokushirou Tsurumi.

Gansoku catches up with them as they head back to the Nivkh village near Ako with Sveltlana, while Sofia follows at a distance. Later, Sugimoto and Asirpa reaffirm their partnership to find the gold, then head off to continue their quest with the rest of the group; Koito, Tanigaki, Tsukishima, Shiraishi, Cikapasi and Enonoka.
