Jul 3, 2004Edward and Alphonse arrive at a town following a lengthy walk and the destruction of a tractor stolen by Winry. Following an argument enhanced by alchemy regarding their next steps, the brothers part ways. Alphonse subsequently encounters an old acquaintance named Marta. In Central, Winry meets with Sheska, and the pair resolve to conduct their own inquiry into the murder of Hughes. Their investigation leads them to uncover information Hughes had previously found concerning Juliet Douglas. The two then listen in on a conversation between Juliet Douglas and Envy.

Jul 10, 2004During transit to a military base near Lior, Mustang learns Kimblee has been reinstated as a state alchemist by the newly promoted Colonel Archer. Upon arriving in Ishbal, the Elrics and Marta find only ruins and encounter 2nd Lts. Breda and Havoc, who are then brought to Mustang for supervision. Later, Mustang reveals aerial footage of Lior to Ed, showing Scar dragging a massive rock to carve a giant Grand Arcanum transmutation circle, which deeply disturbs Ed. Seeking answers, Ed requests permission from Colonel Archer to go undercover in Lior. Archer grants the request but insists Al remain behind to prevent Ed from going AWOL. Before departing, Ed gives Armstrong his silver pocket watch.

Meanwhile, Marta overhears Führer Bradley ordering Kimblee to retrieve Ed’s corpse and discovers Bradley is actually Pride, the seventh homunculus hiding his Ultimate Eye. Marta hides inside Al, but Bradley impales him with his sword, killing Marta.

The group encounters Edward and Izumi, who are intercepted by Archer, now a cyborg. Izumi stays to fight Archer, ordering the others to flee. Edward reunites with Hohenheim and returns to Amestris to stop Dante and free Alphonse and Rosé.
