Ep. 39: Mustang discovers Kimblee's return while the Elrics uncover Scar's Grand Arcanum in Ishbal ruins.

During transit to a military base near Lior, Mustang learns Kimblee has been reinstated as a state alchemist by the newly promoted Colonel Archer. Upon arriving in Ishbal, the Elrics and Marta find only ruins and encounter 2nd Lts. Breda and Havoc, who are then brought to Mustang for supervision. Later, Mustang reveals aerial footage of Lior to Ed, showing Scar dragging a massive rock to carve a giant Grand Arcanum transmutation circle, which deeply disturbs Ed. Seeking answers, Ed requests permission from Colonel Archer to go undercover in Lior. Archer grants the request but insists Al remain behind to prevent Ed from going AWOL. Before departing, Ed gives Armstrong his silver pocket watch.
