A rare illness called Kokuhaku disease reduces a person's heartbeats and shortens their life. A device can measure the remaining heartbeats. Hato Iijima discovers Hatsu Takagi has this condition after seeing the device on her chest while catching her changing clothes. Hatsu lives a quiet, solitary life to keep her heart rate low but longs to fully experience life. Hato promises to help her make the most of her time and let her heart beat freely.
