Sep 28, 1995During the Star Festival, Nuriko, Tasuki, and Miaka enjoy the festivities. Miaka is suddenly reminded of Amiboshi's death and flees to the river to honor him. Tamahome locates her there and insists they speak. Miaka reveals that Taiitsukun instructed her to give up her love for Tamahome. Although upset, Tamahome departs, stating that once they successfully call Suzaku, he will make Miaka a happy bride. The episode concludes with Tamahome returning home to discover his family dead.

Oct 26, 1995Struck by lightning, Tamahome remains unconscious in a cave while Nuriko playfully flirts with Miaka. Upon waking, Tamahome vows to protect Miaka, prompting Nuriko to share his guilt over failing to save his sister Korin, whose death led him to crossdress. A second lightning strike causes Miaka and Tamahome to float above the sea, but Nuriko saves them as his Taiitsukun bracelets transform into armbands. Chichiri and the group eventually locate them. Onboard a ship, Soi attacks Miaka with electricity, but Miaka defends herself using Hotohori's holy sword and defeats her. As the storm dissipates, the group arrives at Hokkan, the land of Genbu, where the Shinzaho resides.

Nov 2, 1995The group finds lodging where an elder reveals the Shinzaho of the Priestess of Genbu was protected by the Genbu Seven 200 years ago. They decide to separate to locate the artifact quickly. Miaka vows to abandon her old world for Tamahome after summoning Suzaku. Inside a bar, Nuriko cuts his hair to better protect Miaka, claiming he is now a man with a woman's heart. Tamahome, Miaka, and Nuriko remain together while others travel separately. Tamahome follows a man whose father is a scholar and reads ancient writing. The scholar states the Shinzaho is in Mt. Koku, where the Priestess of Genbu first appeared. Tamahome meets Yui in Hokkan, who recently separated from Suboshi. Meanwhile, Nakago sends Ashitare, a Seiryu warrior replacing Soi, to kill the Priestess. Ashitare locates and attacks Miaka and Nuriko.

Nov 9, 1995Nuriko saves Miaka from Ashitare by using Chiriko's signal flares, declaring he will die for her. This act makes Miaka view him differently. Meanwhile, Tamahome meets Yui, who claims he is a fictional character and that he and Miaka cannot be together unless Suzaku is summoned. After Suboshi appears, Tamahome flees, leaving Yui uncertain. The group reunites at a house, where Tamahome drinks alone due to Yui's comments. Nuriko admits his love for Miaka and his readiness to die for her. The following day, Nuriko leaves to locate the Shinzaho, allowing Tamahome and Miaka to bond. Upon reaching the cave, Nuriko is confronted by Ashitare just as he attempts to move the boulder blocking the entrance.

Tamahome signals Mitsukake for aid while Nuriko confesses his love to Miaka before passing away. Miaka initially refuses to accept his death, but Tamahome compels her to return. Mitsukake restores Nuriko’s appearance and gives Miaka his armbands for protection. Nov 23, 1995Following Nuriko's death, Miaka and the remaining Suzaku Seven enter a cave to find the Shinzaho of Genbu. Inside, they encounter two Genbu Celestial Warriors, Tomite and Hikitsu, who test Miaka's worthiness by freezing her without clothes. She nearly dies from the cold while Tamahome and the others are blocked by a transparent ice wall. Remembering Nuriko's sacrifice and his presence within her, Miaka breaks the ice. The warriors confirm her capability and agree to give her the Shinzaho, noting the need for the Shinzaho of Byakko to summon Suzaku. However, Ashitare in wolf form steals the artifact and delivers it to Nakago. As a result of this incident, Miaka is separated from the Suzaku Seven.

Nov 30, 1995After Ashitare’s wolf form steals the Shinzaho from Miaka, Taiitsukun advises her to couple with Nakago to retrieve it. While Tamahome departs early due to Miaka’s period, Taiitsukun transforms into a clam. Miaka enters Nakago’s tent, where he waits for her. Meanwhile, Yui leaves her side despite Soboshi’s warnings, leading to a kiss interrupted by another member of the Seven. That member reveals the clam shell to Yui. Nakago attacks Miaka with lightning, destroying the necklace Tamahome’s sister made for her, and advances toward her as Tamahome senses trouble and returns.

Dec 21, 1995Soi secretly gave Tamahome a potion during their kiss, an illusion seen through by Mitsukake’s cat. Amiboshi offers Miaka forgetfulness leaves to erase her past, but she refuses after remembering the Suzaku Seven. Tamahome rejects the fake Miaka to preserve the chance of summoning Suzaku. Amiboshi regains his memory and decides to help Yui summon Seiryuu. Kutou soldiers attack Makan Village, where Amiboshi defeats them with his flute. Tomo reveals himself and attacks Tamahome, warning that other Suzaku Seven members are dying in his illusion. Amiboshi senses Tamahome and departs to help, taking a vial of forgetfulness leaves juice from his adoptive father. Ignoring instructions to wait, Miaka runs off to find Yui and encounters Soi.

Dec 25, 1995Soi informs Miaka that Nakago failed to assault her and that Tomo has trapped Tamahome. Amiboshi shatters Tomo’s illusionary shell with his flute, allowing Miaka to arrive as Tamahome defeats the decoy. Miaka excitedly confirms her virginity to Tamahome, but Amiboshi is captured and Tamahome is stabbed and dragged off a cliff by the real Tomo. Tomo then traps Miaka in an illusion generated from her life force, explaining that she is physically imprisoned within it. He enters the illusion as Aono, intending to take Miaka’s virginity by convincing her she has feelings for him. Miaka becomes confused after seeing Tamahome’s name in a book, but Aono resolves this by giving her a lucky exam pencil from his older brother. Miaka agrees to date him, and they exchange names. Meanwhile, Keisuke calls their mother, claiming Miaka is studying with him and Tetsuya.
