Upon discovering a missing person poster for James, Ash and his companions resolve to locate him and deliver news of his parents' demise. However, the parents are actually alive, and the report was a ruse designed to lure James back home. He is being returned to Jessebelle, a wealthy girl resembling Jessie, whom he was betrothed to in childhood. James fled because he finds Jessebelle frightening. Consequently, the group, along with James' former pet Growlithe, attempts to prevent him from being forced into this unwanted union.
