To locate this treasure, he must decipher the intricate tattoos found on a group of prisoners. These markings were created by the individual who originally took the gold. Sugimoto decides to investigate this lead with the assistance of Asirpa, a knowledgeable young Ainu woman. Her father was killed and robbed, a tragedy that connects her to the community affected by the theft. Together, they plan to use the prisoners' body art as a map to uncover the location of the missing wealth.
