Ep. 22: Hayate receives a birthday watch from Maria while working at Café Donguri with Nagi and Ayumu.
Aired on August 29, 2009

Nagi questions Maria about the value of money, leading her to realize how hard Hayate works to pay off his debt. She surprises Hayate by gifting him a wristwatch purchased with earnings from part-time work. Both Hayate and Nagi accept jobs at Café Donguri, the location where Hayate baked cookies on White Day. Hokuto agrees to this arrangement so Ayumu can also work there to repay funds spent on the Shimoda trip. During their shift, Nagi and Ayumu resume their rivalry over Hayate while serving various customers, including troubled manga artist Gouji Ashibashi and a poorly disguised Maria. When Ashibashi absurdly proposes to Maria, Hayate intervenes by convincing the artist that Maria is actually a man.
