Yukito Kunisaki travels in search of the Winged Maiden, a figure from a legend his mother told him as a child. To earn money, he performs puppet shows, leading him to a quiet town where he plans only a brief stay. He meets a girl named Misuzu and is invited to live with her, eventually forming friendships with the townspeople. As he learns about their struggles, he chooses to help them, temporarily setting aside his quest. His focus shifts to Misuzu and the town, raising questions about whether he will continue searching for the Winged Maiden or discover that she is nearby.
