She nearly dies from the cold while Tamahome and the others are blocked by a transparent ice wall. Remembering Nuriko's sacrifice and his presence within her, Miaka breaks the ice. The warriors confirm her capability and agree to give her the Shinzaho, noting the need for the Shinzaho of Byakko to summon Suzaku. However, Ashitare in wolf form steals the artifact and delivers it to Nakago. As a result of this incident, Miaka is separated from the Suzaku Seven.
