Oct 3, 2013Former Nami Junior High students Hikari Sakishima, Chisaki Hiradaira, Kaname Isaki, and Manaka Mukaido transfer to Mihama Junior High School. Tensions rise between land and sea descendants of the Ofunehiki sacrifice, with Hikari’s hostility toward Manaka escalating early on. After visiting Uroko-sama, Manaka is cursed with a fish growing from her knee following an assault. Embarrassed by classmates’ questions and a bodily function mishap, she flees into the forest. Dehydrated and losing her ena, she collapses until Tsumugu Kihara rescues her. He finds her condition beautiful, but Hikari later misunderstands their interaction and attacks him. Manaka intervenes, prompting Hikari to drag her into the sea out of jealousy.
EP 2Manaka seeks a curse while friends witness Akari's surface romance and face village judgment.
Oct 10, 2013Manaka tries to curse herself again after her fish leaves to please Tsumugu, prompting Hikari to lash out at school. The group, including Tsumugu, Manaka, Hikari, Chisaki, and Kaname, volunteers for the Ofunehiki offering, discussing Shioshishio and Tsumugu. Before departing, they observe Akari kissing a man at the pier, leading them to reflect on sea-land relations. The following day, Chisaki finds Tsumugu creating a watering hole but dislikes his kindness. At Uroko's, Manaka begs for another curse just as village elders arrive to drag Akari away due to her involvement with a surface dweller. Hikari and Manaka watch helplessly as Tomori takes Akari to Uroko, highlighting the tension between their worlds.
EP 3Hikari learns about the village's strict marriage rules and the consequences for children born with surface partners.
Oct 17, 2013Akari faces her father's anger for breaking village rules, while Hikari recalls caring for him after their mother died. Akari then announces her decision to end her relationship. The following day, Hikari tracks Akari's boyfriend to Tsumugu's home, where Tsumugu's grandfather intervenes. He explains that villagers cannot marry outsiders because their offspring lack ena, making underwater survival impossible and forcing families to leave Shioshishio. Hikari realizes Tsumugu's grandfather also originates from the village. Consequently, Hikari drops her hostility toward Tsumugu, and the group bonds after completing their offering. Seeking to resolve Akari's distress, Hikari attempts to reconcile with the boyfriend but is intercepted by two girls who previously fought him. One reveals that the man is her father, halting Hikari's efforts.
EP 4Hikari refuses to help Miuna, Manaka faces rejection, and a rescue reveals a family secret.
Oct 24, 2013Miuna and Sayu ask Hikari to sabotage Akari and Itaru, but he refuses due to his principles. In home economics, Manaka attempts to bond with classmates by sharing food, but they reject her, causing a mess. Sayu is the true culprit, acting out of resentment toward Hikari. Miuna scolds Sayu, and later, Hikari and Manaka save Itaru from drowning, discovering Miuna’s mother originated from Shioshishio. Akari explains to Uroko that she cared for Miuna and her father after her mother’s death but gave up due to rejection. Hikari apologizes to the boys he wrongly blamed, while Manaka supports him, leaving Chisaki feeling sidelined and sad.

After Miuna disappears, Hikari and friends locate her. Hikari invites Miuna to stay overnight, where she admits her affection for Akari but fears loss due to her mother’s death. Hikari comforts her. The next day, a worried Akari finds Hikari and Miuna sleeping together peacefully. Seeing their bond, Akari reconciles with Miuna, ending their conflict. The group supports each other through emotional turmoil, resolving misunderstandings and strengthening their connections despite previous heartbreaks and separations.
EP 6Manaka Reconciles with Chisaki During the Tomoebi Phenomenon
Nov 7, 2013During swim lessons, Chisaki’s physique excites the boys, prompting a race between Hikari and Tsumugu. Hikari injures his toenail, and Manaka rushes to help, causing Chisaki shame as she prioritizes Hikari over him. Later, the group rebuilds the Ofunehiki, but Chisaki departs early, leaving Manaka unable to comfort her troubled friend. On her way home, Manaka meets Tsumugu and recalls missing the rare Tomoebi event years ago due to her tardiness. Back at Shioshishio, the Tomoebi begins again. Manaka calls Chisaki to watch together, using Tsumugu’s advice to speak her mind and reconcile. They regret missing the spectacle with the boys, unaware that Hikari and Kaname are secretly observing the moment from a distance.

Hikari gathers petition signatures to revive the event but fails to persuade his father, Tomori, who eventually joins a reunion Hikari organized. The gathering quickly devolves into violence as old feuds resurface, a chaos intensified when Akari and Itaru arrive together, leading to the accidental destruction of the offering. Following this failure, Tomori urges Akari to end her relationship with Itaru. She remains resolute and prepares to depart from her home in Shioshishio. Hikari chooses to accompany her, prompting Uroko to use his powers to block their exit, until Tomori intervenes and allows them to leave.

At the station, they meet Tsumugu, who guides them through various stores to find an affordable necklace. An elevator incident leaves Chisaki and Hikari alone, allowing Chisaki to discuss Hikari’s emotions regarding Manaka, to which Hikari responds that he would respect her choice to be with Tsumugu. After Miuna learns her chosen necklace is sold out, the group decides to gather shells to craft a replacement. Kaname accompanies her to the village, where adults welcome them with blue lanterns. Manaka arrives home and learns that returning to the surface is now forbidden. The next day, Hikari notices his friends from Shioshishio are absent from school and returns to the village to investigate. Manaka explains the ban due to the impending calamity and expresses her desire to support him. Although Hikari knows she sees him only as a friend, he embraces her before a surprised Manaka shoves him away and he flees.
EP 10Hikari seeks to stop the freezing saltflake snow by performing the Ofunehiki ritual.
Dec 5, 2013Uroko reveals that the Sea God’s weakening power causes saltflake snow to cool the world, potentially freezing all surface humans until his strength returns. To survive, underwater residents will hibernate, while villagers hold a Friday banquet before fasting. Believing the Ofunehiki ritual can appease the deity and avert disaster, Hikari persuades Uroko to allow him and his friends to attend school until hibernation begins, prompting them to review their preparations. During the banquet, Manaka is distressed by the situation and makes a wish after finding a sea slug with a red belly. The following day, Kaname confesses his feelings to Chisaki.
EP 11The Changing Times
Dec 12, 2013Following Kaname’s confession, he and Chisaki attend school normally with their friends. As Shioshishio’s Ena thickens for hibernation, the children must frequently resupply water on the surface. Hikari and others resume eating to delay their sleep, fearing they will never see their friends again. Meanwhile, Akari and Itaru plan their marriage, while fishermen request Hikari’s help with the Ofunehiki ritual to appease the Sea God and end the cold. Iroko deems the effort futile, but Hikari insists on proceeding. With city assistance, preparations begin for a ritual coinciding with the hibernation start. Akari volunteers to replace the offering, promising to return and marry Itaru with his blessing. After the group agrees, Chisaki, inspired by Kaname, confesses her feelings for Hikari.

Chisaki and Kaname dive to rescue Tsumugu, while Manaka saves Akari and offers herself as a substitute. Hikari rescues his sister but fails to save Manaka. Sayu warns Miuna that a classmate intends to confess during the event. Chisaki, previously rejected by his family, now lives with Isamu until the elder is hospitalized. Tsumugu leaves to study oceanography, investigating sea village climate links. During the Tomoebi, Miuna declines a confession, citing another interest. Sayu decides to move on but later discovers Kaname does remember her, bringing her joy. That night, Hikari, Kaname, and Miuna learn that Tsumugu and Professor Mihashi identified a weak point in the sea current around Shioshishio. Uroko appears to question Miuna's desire to find Manaka before disappearing when the boys arrive. Miuna hears the sound again, leading the trio to a secret trench where previous Ojoshis are kept. There, they locate an unconscious Manaka. Miuna discovers the sound originates from Manaka's detaching Ena, which threatens her life. Hikari decides to take her to the surface. The next day, Chisaki struggles against currents until Hikari rescues her. She shares the legend with him, suggesting Manaka’s coma relates to a lost Ena. When a feverish Hikari mistakes Miuna for Manaka and collapses, she feigns illness to care for him. Tsumugu contacts her regarding research but visits in person upon noticing her distress. Meanwhile, Miuna, who left home earlier and is accompanied by Sayu, soaks her feet in water at school because she mysteriously acquired Ena and feels difficulty breathing like sea people. Sayu asks if Miuna is unhappy about Manaka waking up. Miuna states she is happy but feels somewhat different than imagined. While Manaka plays with salt flake snow with Chisaki, Hikari and Kaname discuss how Manaka stays the same. Kaname suggests it is because her friends are there for her, and because of Hikari himself. Hikari notes that Manaka does not remember events before hibernating but recalls a voice, unsure if it told her to give something or that she will be given something. They later go to the school rooftop and meet Miuna and Sayu, discussing study. Chisaki feels left out since she is the only one who already went through it, goes to the hospital, and meets Tsumugu and his grandfather. Chisaki says she is fine since her friends are all there and she will be busy with Manaka. Hikari and Miuna's family have dinner and invite Sayu, Kaname, and Manaka; Chisaki and Tsumugu, however, decline the invitation. Early next morning, Tsumugu runs over to Hikari's home and reveals a live fishhead protruding from his left arm, similar to that on Manaka's knee in the first episode, and reveals that Uroko must have cursed him.
