While traveling through a field, rain forces Hisagi and Rangiku to seek shelter at a hot springs inn managed by a woman. Rangiku suspects the manager, while Hisagi struggles with his feelings for Rangiku and is tempted to peek when she goes to bathe. When Hisagi opens the door, Rangiku attacks the manager, revealing her to be a Hollow. After defeating the enemy, Rangiku admits she used Hisagi as bait to lure out the Hollow.

Ken apologizes, unaware the hollow has possessed him. The hollow then possesses Haruko, forcing Kon to fight her and extract it. Ichigo saves Kon’s pill form and destroys the hollow. Haruko mistakes Ichigo for Kon and pursues him, but Rukia erases their memories. Haruko and Ken reconcile, unaware of the events.

Just before Inaba kills them, other captains and lieutenants arrive, rescuing Nozomi and forcing Inaba’s forces to retreat. Inaba admits to orchestrating the incident, claiming that possessing Nozomi will allow him to conquer both the Soul Society and the living world. He escapes to meet with his reigai, ordering them to retrieve Nozomi and eliminate the originals, whom he calls the Invading Army.

Rukia joins Nemu and Rangiku to search for Nozomi, but the fake Rukia throws Nemu, Rangiku, and the real Rukia into a river. Ukitake is slashed by Kyouraku when freeing him, revealing this Kyouraku is also a reigai. The false Ukitake and false Kyouraku prepare to flee.

Yoruichi appears to defeat both reigai and save Hitsugaya. Meanwhile, Soi Fon's reigai attacks Kenpachi until Komamura interrupts and challenges her. Inaba attacks Ichigo, claiming his lack of purity makes him an erasable anomaly. Inaba then uses his zanpakutou to trap Ichigo within the Dangai. This event is part of the Gotei 13 Invading Army arc, episode 10 of 26.
