Kenshin detects Aoshi’s presence in Houji Sadojima’s room and enters with the resolve to honor his promises to both Aoshi and Misao by defeating him and returning him to the inn. Aoshi greets Kenshin, declaring that he has abandoned everything, including his four comrades, solely for the sake of this duel. He is fully determined to win the fight and kill the manslayer in order to claim the title of the strongest.
