While celebrating Hanami, Ataru breaks a tree branch and accidentally creates a tear in the fabric of dimensions, which transports Lum into a parallel universe. In this alternate reality, Ataru lost the game of tag during the first episode, resulting in his family living in poverty. He remains hostile toward Lum, blaming her for ruining the lives of both himself and his parents. Determined to resolve the situation, Lum travels through different dimensions in an attempt to locate the real Ataru and restore the correct timeline.
