Arima becomes insecure after noticing differences between Yukino and his family, causing him to avoid her. Yukino struggles with his distance until she confronts him, realizing he is her only true friend. Arima finally opens up, revealing he is an adopted child whose biological parents were abusive blackmailers and thieves who abandoned him due to debt. He was subsequently adopted by his father’s older brother, who cared for him well. However, Arima felt unable to be genuine, constantly maintaining a false persona to avoid judgment based on his parents' crimes. Yukino and Arima decide to relax their strict self-imposed images and break free from the perfect facades they constructed. This vulnerability allows them to connect more deeply, culminating in Arima confessing his feelings to Yukino once again.
