She mentions he packed onigiris and sunscreen, and has been meeting a girl. The boys speak with the girl, who says Mitsuhiko boarded a bus hours ago and smelled of lemons. The bus driver confirms he got off at a train station. A ticket administrator reveals Mitsuhiko headed toward Mount Osutaka. At the mountain, Mitsuhiko’s Detective Badge is detected by Conan. The group follows the signal into a forest, where they meet Misao Yamamura. She warns them that a serial killer is hiding in the same woods where Mitsuhiko is currently located.

The following day at school, Ayumi and Haibara discuss a Tsuchinoko sighting in Gifu. Genta and Mitsuhiko overhear this and plan a trip to Gifu to search for the creature.

As they attempt to depart, the captain abandons them with the boat, leaving the group stranded on the island. They seek shelter in an abandoned house, waiting for rescue.

He reveals Miyako, disguised as Tiara, faked her kidnapping to test her stepfather’s love, but stole the byōbu in vengeance when he refused to pay the ransom.

Conan disarms the elevator bomb, revealing the code refers to the English word "Detective," which translates to Teitan when flipped in kanji. The bomb at Teitan High is neutralized, and the bomber is apprehended.

The connoisseur criticizes the artwork's poor care, and both depart. Later, the children buy wine for amazake preparation. Upon returning, they encounter the connoisseur who claims to have left his mobile phone. They find the apartment door unlocked and the interior in disarray, with the valuable painting missing.
