Elsewhere, Shouzo remains pinned beneath a heavy rock, requiring assistance from Sanosuke and Lady Magdalia so he can inform Shougo about the situation. Sanosuke effortlessly knocks out another of Kaiou’s subordinates, but Lady Magdalia begins hyperventilating due to her condition. Kenshin, Kaoru, Yahiko, and Misao arrive to help the pair exit the cave. Upon discovering that Lady Magdalia suffers from tuberculosis, Sanosuke rushes to locate Sir Elsten for medical treatment and to report the army’s formation. Meanwhile, Shouzo eavesdrops on Kaiou’s plans and attempts to engage him in combat but is defeated. As a final measure, Shouzo uses pipe bombs provided by Sanosuke, resulting in Kaiou’s death.

With no lodging available, the group reluctantly stays at the impostor’s temple, where they assist with dojo duties in exchange for accommodation. The Tengu, growing impatient, hire a swordsman to eliminate the fake Battousai. The swordsman arrives at the dojo demanding a duel. Kenshin returns from shopping and defeats the challenger, saving the impostor. Kenshin permits the man to retain the title of the legendary manslayer, and the group departs to return home.

Yutaro places a rock on an altar, which ignites the cave. Misanagi, leader of the Sanada Ninjas, appears to warn them that the path leads to the bottom of an abyss. As the group descends toward the cave base, the floor collapses beneath them, trapping them in the dangerous descent.

Yutaro treats Kaita’s wounds, and in return, Kaita reveals a tunnel leading back to the cave’s pathway. However, their progress is soon obstructed by Zan and Ren, two elite members of the Sanada Ninjas who intervene and disrupt the group’s movement.
