While traveling through the industrial town of Gringy City, Pikachu exhibits strange symptoms with twitching electric sacs. Nurse Joy at the local Pokémon Center diagnoses him with the early stages of a Pokémon cold and begins treatment. Suddenly, the entire town experiences a power outage. Suspecting the issue lies with the power-generating station near the beach, Ash and his friends head to investigate the facility. Upon arrival, they encounter Magnemite and a group of Grimer, which are Pokémon formed from sludge. The group must determine the cause of the blackout and the connection between the malfunctioning power source and the presence of these specific Pokémon in the area.
